DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 7th Surrey Arts & Business Awards\, celebrating Surrey's thriving creative industry and honouring those individuals and businesses dedicated to enhancing our community through the arts\, enriching the livability of Surrey. \n\n \n\nBC Minister of Tourism\, Arts\, Culture and Sports\, Hon. Lana Popham\, will join us and share her ministry's support to BC's creative industry\, specifically in Surrey. Canadian former professional Ice Hockey defenceman and Assistant Director of Player Personnel with the Vancouver Canucks\, David Babych\, will share his career's highlights. \n\n \n\nThis event will also present the following awards to individuals\, businesses\, organizations\, and supporters in enriching the City of Surrey. \n\n\n	Arts & Innovation\n	Cultural Ambassador\n	Legacy Award\n	Music Award\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers:\n\n\n\n\nLana Popham was elected MLA for Saanich South in 2009\, and re-elected in 2013\, 2017\, and 2020. She is the Minister of Tourism\, Arts\, Culture and Sport.\n\n \n\nAfter being elected in 2009\, Lana served as Opposition critic for agriculture for eight years. She travelled the province extensively\, meeting with farmers\, agricultural associations and food advocacy groups. She has championed numerous agricultural initiatives\, including the Buy BC programme\, improvements to the meat regulations and increased institutional procurement of local food.\n\n \n\nAs the MLA for Saanich South\, Lana actively supports her constituents and has organized many community meetings\, gatherings\, rallies and marches.\n\n \n\nLana entered politics to improve the quality of life in Saanich\, promote sustainable agriculture and strengthen the provincial response to climate change.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Michael Babych is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 19 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He is currently the Vice President of the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association and Director of the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation. He played in two NHL All-Star Games and played for the Winnipeg Jets\, Hartford Whalers\, Vancouver Canucks\, Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings. He was the first NHL player to wear the number 44 on a permanent basis.
